My top 5 picks for gifts at Vintage & Made Fair - Holiday Edition

Holiday season is upon us. With multiple family gatherings, white elephant friends dinners and work holiday parties on the horizon, you may be stressing about the gift-giving side of the holidays. I know I am.

Every year I have the best intentions. I plan to hand make or buy everything local that I can, and it will be a magical, Pinterest-worthy holiday. But without fail, I always end up making a last minute Target run or order something from Amazon because, well, life happens. And that's ok.

I'm also a big fan of giving experiences instead of things. But sometimes you just can't send your boss to Harry Potter World and you need to get them something thoughtful, unique and cost-effective all in one. Not an easy feat.

In an effort to hold myself accountable while also sharing some of the incredible local talent we have here in Iowa, I've put together a list of some of my favorite items that will be available this Saturday at Vintage and Made Fair in Des Moines.

*Full disclosure, I'm going to have a booth at this event too, so if you do decide to come out and purchase some of these incredible goods, stop by and say hello! Also, if you mention this blog post, I'll give you 20% off your entire purchase.

Best stocking stuffer

Whoa Nelli
Holiday Lip Balm Trio

Three handmade lip balms made with certified organic ingredients are packaged in a white slider box embellished with a mitten cut-out and faux-fur trim. The trio comes with the most popular lip balm flavors - peppermint, cocoa vanilla, and basil mint.

Mary and Matt are two of the coolest people you will ever meet, and they make truly incredible products. If you're looking for all natural home and skin products, look no further!

Best Gift for your Modern Art Loving Friend

Art by Monica
Green with Non-Envy

I am absolutely loving all of Monica's work. And she has a variety of pieces for all budgets and tastes. Seriously, these pieces are beautiful. You need to see them up close.

Best Gift for your Friend that is Always Cold

Little Grey Heart
Little Grey Heart Hats

Have you met Haley? If not, you should. She is one of the sweetest and most talented people I know. I've known her for many years, and she is amazing at many things (fancy cooking, dog-momming boston terriers, etc), but it's been so inspiring to see how much she has done with this business over the past few years. Her knits are beautiful. Oh, and my baby likes them too!

Best Gift for Big Statements

Nicole + Dime Designs
Blonde Turquoise diamond and disc earrings

Nicole & Dime Designs was started in the summer of 2012 by owner and designer Nicole Rutherford. Nicole creates one of a kind, handmade, statement jewelry that focuses on bold color, texture, and pattern. I love wearing these pieces because they really do steal the show. She's one of my go-to places for gifts every year!

Best Gift for showing your Midwest Pride

The Side Garage
Midwest Pine Sweatshirt

Ashleigh & Elena are literally taking over Des Moines and the Midwest with their interactive and one of a kind live screen printing set up. If you get the chance to print your own shirt with them, absolutely do it. As a fellow (and slightly biased) printmaker, it is one of the best art forms that everyone should experience if they get the chance!

Best Gift for Self Care

Bev the Barbarian
Any of their specialty craft cocktails

Ok...this is actually just a gift for yourself, at the event. You're welcome. The crew with Bev makes the best cocktails, and mocktails. Make sure you stop by and enjoy some of their offerings.

Ok, that is all from me for now. Thanks for playing along, and I hope to see you all on Saturday, shopping local and supporting all your midwest makers.
